Peach Banana Cottage Cheese Smoothie

I’m always looking for easy smoothie recipes to make to share with my kids for snacks or to serve with meals. This combination is one of our new favorites—and I love how much fresh fruit is packed inside! There’s nothing fancy in this smoothie and it’s incredibly straight forward to make.

I use cottage cheese in this smoothie to add creaminess and protein—without the need for protein powder. It’s also a great way to add a calcium-rich food if the kids need a few more in their regular meals and snacks. It blends up super creamy so you really won’t notice that it’s there!

TIP: I like to use whole milk cottage cheese (sometimes called 5% fat) to make sure that this smoothie is satisfying and that the kids are getting the healthy fats they need.

Is there anything I can use instead of cottage cheese?

You can use Greek-style yogurt, dairy or nondairy, in place of the cottage cheese if you prefer. That will still offer similar nutrition in terms of calcium and protein.

Will other fruits work?

Sure! You can use berries like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or cherries instead of the peaches if you prefer.

What’s the best way to serve this to my toddler?

My favorite way to serve smoothies to little kids is to use a Squeasy Gear reusable pouch. They are easy to use and clean and last for years and years. They are also really hard for the kids to squirt out on purpose, which is helpful!

Best Tips

  • Put the orange into the blender first so it’s right on the blade since you’ll need the liquid from it to help move the rest of the ingredients around.
  • Use the stick that came with your blender (if one did) to help move the ingredients.
  • If you don’t have a fresh orange, use ½ cup orange juice.
  • Use fresh peach instead of frozen if desired and add a few ice cubes.
  • Use Greek-style yogurt (dairy or nondairy) in place of the cottage cheese if desired.
  • Add 2 tablespoons hemp seeds to add more healthy fats and protein.
  • Serve in a small open cup, from a bowl with a spoon, or in a reusable pouch.

I’d love to hear if your kids like this smoothie if you try it!

Description

This simple smoothie is easy to make and is super creamy without many ingredients. You can even share it with your kiddo! Be sure to blend it very well to ensure the best creamy texture.

  • 1 fresh medium orange, peeled
  • 1/2 frozen banana (about ½ cup)
  • ½ cup frozen peach slices
  • ½ cup whole milk cottage cheese

Instructions

  1. Add the orange to the blender, then top with the additional ingredients.
  2. Blend, starting on low and working up to high until very smooth and creamy. Use the stick that came with your blender to help move the ingredients around if needed—it may at first seem like there’s not enough liquid, but there will be as soon as the orange starts to be blended up. (If your blender doesn’t have a stick, stop the blender a few times and move the ingredients around with a spoon.)
  3. Serve immediately in a cup, in a bowl with a spoon, or in a reusable pouch.

Notes

Save any leftovers for a future snack in an airtight container (try to use within 24 hours or freeze into popsicles).

Put the orange into the blender first since you’ll need the liquid from it to help move the rest of the ingredients around.

Use the stick that came with your blender (if one did) to help move the ingredients.

If you don’t have a fresh orange, use ½ cup orange juice.

Use fresh peach instead of frozen if desired and add a few ice cubes.

Use Greek-style yogurt (dairy or nondairy) in place of the cottage cheese if desired.

Add 2 tablespoons hemp seeds to add more healthy fats and protein.

Serve in a small open cup, from a bowl with a spoon, or in a reusable pouch.
